The Path-goal theory is a leadership model that suggests that leaders should tailor their style to the needs of their followers and the situation. The theory proposes four varied leadership styles:

Supportive leaders are friendly, approachable, and understanding. This style is often effective when followers need emotional support or when the task is stressful.
Participative leaders involve their followers in decision-making. This style is often effective when followers have expertise or when they need to be motivated to achieve a goal.
Achievement-oriented leaders set challenging goals and expect their followers to perform at their best. This style is often effective when followers are motivated by achievement or when the task is important.
The path-goal theory can be used to help leaders select the right leadership style for different situations. For example, a directive leadership style might be effective when onboarding new employees, while a supportive leadership style might be effective when managing a team of employees who are working on a project under pressure.
